Supermarket Returning to Middleburgh Next Year

Because of the incredible efforts of several key parties, a supermarket will be coming into the Village in the coming year.

The partnership between Jim and Jason Becker with Carver Laraway will be constructing the store, which will be a similar size as the former Grand Union. It will be operated by an independent local owner that will be responsive to our community needs.

The store will be placed across Route 30 from the former Grand Union on the lot near the Pharmacy. The former Henry Doerge property will be used to construct town houses to expand housing capacity for our community after losing so many units due to the flood. These new buildings will be beautiful and designed to fit right in with the community.

The plan is to have the supermarket open by the middle to end of summer 2016. I cannot thank all parties involved enough-- they have been very well organized and community oriented throughout this whole process. I'm looking forward to this project providing one of the last missing pieces for our community.

We will be having an informational meeting next Monday, December 14th at 7pm at the Fire House to hear any public thoughts or concerns.

This is a wonderful Christmas present to a community that has perservered through so much.
